First time I read 'King's Ransom' was in 1960, the French pocketbook.
Then in 1968 'De losprijs/The Ransom', the Dutch translation.
In 1991, I got the unabridged book-on-tape version.
Again,in 1995, the Oxford Bookworms abridged simplified version stage 5: 1800 headwords.
In 2004 the Kurosawa movie 'Tengoku to Jigoku/High and Low'.(First part of the movie is McBain's).
And in 2010 the TV-episode in the series 87th Precinct from the sixties.(Story and scenario are McBain's).
Recently I enjoyed again the tapes, the shortened version and the movies and....
Guess what?: Still trilled and shocked in every chapter of the book.
I find this novel one of the earlier best.
